25mm Rebar Coupler

The 25mm Rebar Coupler is a mechanical reinforcement bar connection designed to join two 25mm reinforcement bars end-to-end. It provides an alternative to conventional lap splicing where a mechanical rebar connection is specified by the structural design or project requirements.

For a parallel-threaded version, the prepared ends of the reinforcement bars engage with the internal threads of the coupler to create the mechanical connection. Proper bar preparation, thread engagement and tightening should follow the manufacturer's approved installation procedure.

Types of Rebar Couplers

Depending on your product range, mechanical rebar couplers can include:

Standard Coupler
Used for conventional end-to-end reinforcement connections where installation conditions permit the required bar movement.

Position Coupler
Useful where reinforcement bars cannot freely rotate during installation.

Reducer Coupler
Designed to connect reinforcement bars of different diameters when the specific coupler is designed and qualified for that application.

Transition Coupler
Used for specific reinforcement connection requirements according to the approved product design.

Why 25mm Coupler is Better Than Lapping for 25mm Bar?

  1. Huge Steel Saving: Save 1.25 meter lapping steel per joint. For 2000 joints, save 2500 meters of 25mm bar.
  2. No Congestion in Columns: In columns with 8 nos of 25mm bars, lapping makes it 16 bars at one place. Concrete cannot flow. Coupler keeps reinforcement clean.
  3. Faster Work: Lapping and tying takes time. Coupler joint takes 60 seconds with wrench.
  4. Stronger & Approved: As per MCGM and MahaRERA for high-rise buildings above 70m, mechanical splicing is now compulsory for 20mm and above. Full load transfer, no weak point.

How to Install 25mm Rebar Coupler on Site?

Step 1: Cut 25mm bar straight. Make parallel threads on bar end with roll-thread machine.
Step 2: Put plastic caps to protect threads.
Step 3: Screw one bar fully into coupler, then screw second bar from other side. Tighten with pipe wrench.

Applications of 25mm Rebar Coupler

The 25mm size can be used in project-specific mechanical reinforcement connections for:

ApplicationTypical Use
RCC BuildingsStructural reinforcement connections
High-Rise BuildingsColumns, beams and heavily reinforced areas
ColumnsVertical reinforcement connections
BeamsMechanical rebar splicing
FoundationsReinforcement connections in foundation elements
Bridges & FlyoversStructural reinforcement connections
Industrial StructuresReinforced concrete construction
Infrastructure ProjectsMechanical splicing where specified

Benefits of Using 25mm Rebar Couplers

  • Material savings: Eliminates lap lengths, saving 50–70% steel where laps would be excessive

  • Faster construction: No lap splicing means quicker rebar installation

  • Reduced congestion: Compact design allows easier concrete placement

  • Full-strength connection: Achieves 125% or more of specified yield strength

  • Versatility: Suitable for vertical, horizontal, or inclined bar connections

  • Code compliance: Manufactured to meet BS, ACI, IS, ASTM, and Eurocode standards

Testing & Quality Control

The IS 16172:2023 framework includes performance testing such as tensile strength, disengagement testing for threaded couplers, percentage elongation, slip, cyclic tensile testing and fatigue testing.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q1: What is a 25mm rebar coupler used for?

A 25mm rebar coupler is used to connect two 25mm diameter rebar rods end-to-end. It replaces traditional lap splicing in columns, beams, rafts, and shear walls to provide full structural strength.

Q2: How much lap length does a 25mm coupler save?

A standard lap length for 25mm rebar typically requires around 1.25 meters (50 times diameter) of steel overlap per connection. Using a 25mm coupler completely eliminates this extra lap length, saving significant steel weight.

Q3: Is thread preparation required on the 25mm rebar before fitting?

Yes, depending on the coupler type (such as parallel threaded or cold-forged threaded), the 25mm rebar ends are processed and threaded to match the internal threads of the coupler for a precise lock.

Q4: Which standards do these 25mm couplers meet?

Our 25mm rebar couplers are designed and tested in compliance with global mechanical splicing standards, including IS 16172, ACI 318, and BS 8110.

Q5: Can 25mm rebar couplers be used in high seismic zones?

Yes, high-performance mechanical splices are certified for dynamic and cyclic loading, ensuring reliable performance in seismic structural designs.
